The late 19th-century construction of the Chail Cricket Ground was overseen by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. Its initial purpose was to serve as a polo pitch for the Maharaja and his visitors. The Maharaja, a passionate cricket fan, later transformed it into a cricket pitch.

Beautiful deodar and pine trees envelop the area, providing spectacular views of the hills beyond.

The ground has a unique charm and appeal, owing to its high altitude and location amidst the beautiful Himalayan mountains. The pitch is well-maintained, and matches are still played here regularly. The ground has also hosted some high-profile matches, including a friendly match between the Maharaja’s team and Lord Willingdon’s team in 1933.

Tourists can go trekking or hiking, explore the lovely forests and hills that surround the town, or simply take a leisurely stroll through its charming streets. In addition, the town is home to several stunning temples, including the Maharaja-built Chail Palace, which is now a heritage hotel.
